I would use it mainly for e-mail, pictures, bill paying and games. What should I consider? Hard drive, memory, etc.?

In my opinion, Sony, IBM, Dell are the best laptops. You can take any but be sure that your laptop should be Pentium IV (Centrino or Duo Core II), at least 512 MB RAM (in case duo core II, it starts from GBs), 80 GB Hard drive, Super Drive etc.

I would do some research into the past units and find out what their defects have been and the cost of repairs and warranties. Here is a page talking of all the things to think about before purchasing.         Www.bizwaremagic.com/notebook-online-buyers-guide.htm www.consumersearch.com/www/computers/cheap-laptops/index.html
