    North Carolina covers an area about 53,000 sq miles big. Scotland is about 31,500 sq miles in area; both are big enough to put a possibly rather large margin of error into the answer.

    The answer that follows is the distance from the approximate centre of Scotland (Pitlochry) to the approximate middle of North Carolina (Raleigh). The distance along the Earth's surface is 3653 miles / 5878 km. You could add or take away about two hundred miles to get to the shortest or greatest possible distances between Scotland and North Carolina.

      If you measure the straight line flight distance ("as the crow flies") between the center of each location, the total distance from Scotland to North Carolina is 3,728 miles or 5,999 kilometers.
