The size or space your solar electric system will need depend upon the rating or generating capacity of the system that has been procured. A simple starter system requires as little as fifty square feet. Roof mounted panels can also be as big as five hundred to a thousand square feet.
As a general rule, so to speak, every square foot of poly or single crystalline PV module produces ten watts of power in bright sunlight. If you follow this same rule then you need between a hundred to two hundred square feet of area to produce one thousands watt of power. In order to determine the size of your overall system you need to consider factors such as roof area available, financial resources, amount of energy one wishes to produce etc.
