How Long Do Female Dogs Bleed After Labor?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Bleeding is normal following whelping.  Most dogs will have a discharge for up to 6 or 7 weeks but it can persist for up to 12 weeks.  The discharge may be bloody, brown or even greenish.  It should not be foul smelling.  If your dog has a fever or shows any other signs of illness like depression or lethargy, you should have her examined by a veterinarian.
