There is some debate about this and opinions differ but one of the biggest is the anaconda. Another contender for the title is the Asiatic Reticulated Python. The python can grow to enormous lengths, one of the largest ever measured was 9.9 metres long. The anaconda has the largest bulk of any snake on Earth, with the girth measurement similar to the waist measurement of a large adult man. One anaconda (Eunectes murinus) was found in eastern Columbia, in South America in 1944, measuring over 11 metres long. This may never have been independently verified, so the anaconda seems to hold the world record for length, if not fatness.
There have been stories and reports of anacondas in the swamp areas of South America at sea serpent proportions ~ some estimates put the length of swamp dwelling snakes at over 18 metres, but no specimen, living or dead, has ever been confirmed as being this big.
