        Caroline (and Carol) are feminine forms of Charles. Charles is translated as Carolus. Caroline would therefore usually be translated as Carola, but Carolina is equally acceptable. Note that North and South Carolina get their names from King Charles I.

        The previous answers giving "Caroline" as the Latin for Caroline are simply wrong. They were probably produced by my pet hate, trying to produce Latin by machine. The translation program did not recognise the word Caroline and simply left it unchanged.

        To pronounce Carolina as Julius Caesar might have, say Kah-Roh-Lee-Nah rolling the "R" if you can.
