Born in Dakar in the African country of Senegal, in June nineteen seventy six, Patrick Donale Viera was signed for Arsenal by manager Arsene Wenger from Italian giants AC Milan in nineteen ninety six.

Although having only played just two league games for the Italian side, Wenger was insistent Viera become an Arsenal player; indeed, it was one of the conditions of Wenger taking the job in the first place.

Viera proved to be an instant success in the Premier league and alongside fellow Frenchmen, Emmanuel Petit, the pair forged the best central midfield partnership in the English game at the time, a point reinforced by Arsenal winning the league and FA cup double in nineteen ninety eight, in what was only Veira's first full season at the club.

Viera was also part of the French squad that one the World cup in the same year, a tournament hosted by the French also.
