      The word relevance is a noun which means ' the pertinence or connection of something to the topic at hand'. It can be used in a sentence in this way:

      'The point she raised  had no relevance to the discussion at hand'.

      It can also mean 'the effect of something on social issues'. For instance:

      ' The government's income support schemes lack relevance'.

      In computer science it refers to the usefulness of search engines to cater to the needs of the users. Some synonyms of the noun relevance, which will help you understand it's meaning are:
      Pertinence, pertinenecy, relevancy, appropriability, applicability and application.
