How Do You Start A Small Business?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

If you want to start your own small-scale business, you must first of all have a clear idea in your mind about what type of business you want to do and whether you want to buy a franchise or run an existing business. Then you have to decide whether you want to run the business alone, as a family-run business concern or in partnership with another person. Then you should have a business plan so that you and other interested parties can evaluate your business organisation.

Then you have to take decision regarding the financing and the sources of finance for your business concern. You can either take a loan from the bank or from your family members and friends or from investors. After you have decided whether the legal structure of the business will resemble a sole proprietorship or a partnership or a corporation, you must buy land or hire premises and start doing the business, keeping the accounts and maintaining the records. You can even run the business from home.

If I may answer, in starting a business, one should have a perfect business plan or a five year feasibility study. This includes topics like venue, capital, expected income, forecast of marketing, manufacturing of product(s) and expected numbers of employees in the first 5 years.

When these are all written by you completely, you will not then get a permit from you city where your operation is going to happen. You will wait for approval, while waiting get ready with your product as well as applying for your trademark, patent, and all that is important to you.  You might want to open a business checking account at this point, apply for an number that you can use from board of equalization (if you are from US), contact some agencies for your books (accountant - payroll manager).  These are just SOME of the things that you have to do - there are a lot more that will come along as you go. It is always different on what type of business you want to get into.

I hope this help even a bit.
