On A PC, What Is A 'Shortcut'?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Shortcuts are created on PC's in order to allow you to get to a particular program more quickly. For example, if you wanted a quicker way to access Microsoft word than having to scroll down the 'All Programs' menu from the 'Start' button, then you would create a shortcut for Microsoft Word which will appear on your desktop.

You are usually given the option to put a shortcut for a program on your desktop during installation of that particular program. This also happens with games and other programs. If you want a quicker way to access the programs then you would click the option to create a shortcut and one will automatically appear on your desktop.

You can create a shortcut yourself by going to the 'Start' button, then 'All Programs', then scrolling down the list. Once you locate the program that you wish to create a shortcut for, you right click on the mouse button and select 'create shortcut', and it will appear on your desktop.

If you find that your desktop gets too crowded with shortcuts then click once on a shortcut icon on your desktop, right click on the mouse and select 'delete', and the icon will be sent straight to the recyle bin. Repeat the process until your desktop is clear enough.
