Could be a timing belt, starter, many things can be going on with it. I would not travel far because you might not be as lucky to start back up and go on your way. I would get it checked ASAP.

Your engine is probably over-heating...do to a problem with your cooling system - probably a leak somewhere, or you may need to flush out the whole system...one way to find out if that may be the issue - next time someone you know is following you, have them look for bluish smoke coming out of your exhaust..this will indicate a leak of coolant in the engine somewhere...your car heats up on hot days/when stopped because it isn't cooling itself properly - when you ae moving, the outside air cools the engine...i hope this helps a little - if not, sorry - i may be completely off-base...either way something to look into maybe...

It only does it when it runs hot. After it cools down it is fine. It does it on warm days and when you are sitting in traffic and begin to give it some gas when you pull off from a stop light. The check engine light comes on everyday but does not stay on and the fan comes on when the car is stopped at a traffic light or parked.the temperture needle goes back to the middle when the fan cuts on.
