    A public utility is basically something that handles the infrastructure for any kind of public service. It frequently engages natural monopolies. Public utilities are either privately owned or it could also be publicly owned.

    Some of the common example of utilities are electric utility, Drinking water purification and distribution, Sewage treatment and disposal, Other waste disposal, Natural gas distribution, District heat generation and distribution, Public transport, and  Telecommunications, such as cable television and telephone lines.
