What Is Thyme Used For In Aromatherapy?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Thyme is a somewhat old fashioned aromatherapy oil, a bit like an old maiden aunt !
However, it does have some good uses, mainly for colds, respiratory infections and sore throats etc.
Like any essential oil it should not be used neat, but should be diluted in a good quality carrier oil.  (Evening Primrose Oil is a very good carrier oil).
Thyme is an antiseptic, hence its use in colds and coughs etc.  It can also make the body get rid of phlegm, so whilst not very nice is useful with a chesty cough.
It can also stimulate the appetite, often helpful when convalescing and it can help to lift those 'post illness blues' when life seems a little grey and everything seems like quite a lot of effort !
It is also reputed to help to strengthen the immune system.  Note that this is a particularly strong oil and should be diluted even before adding it to the bath !
