Where Is Niagara Falls?

Niagara Falls, also known as les Chute du Niagara, is located in North America on the border between Canada and the United States of America in the towns of Niagara Falls, Ontario and Niagra Falls, New York.  Niagara Falls consists of three individual waterfalls: the Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side, thus sometimes referred to as the Canadian Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls.  Although illegal in both Canada and the United States of America, several people have tempted fate by taking the plunge over the falls.  In October 1829, Sam Patch jumped over the Canadian Falls and became the first person known to survive the plunge.  Since then, several others have tried though not all have gone unharmed.  Others attempting the plunge have even died.  In 1901 Annie Edson, a sixty-three year old woman, went over the falls in a barrel.  She was the first person to ever do so and survived with only minor scrapes and bruises.  The first person to ever swim the English Channel, Captain Matthew Webb, drowned in 1883 while trying to swim across the whirlpools and rapids of the Falls.

The Niagara Falls is located in North America, on the border between Canada and the United States. It is located on the River Niagara in the eastern part of the North American continent. The Niagara Falls comprises three waterfalls, namely the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. When the waterfalls are in full flow, more than six million cubic feet of water falls over the crestline every minute. That can be converted to approximately 168, 000 square metres of water falling per minute. On an average, approximately four million cubic feet of water or about 110, 000 square metres of water falls over the crestline every minute.

To describe the location of Niagara Falls roughly, one can say that it is situated about twenty minutes away from the city of Buffalo in the United States and approximately an hour and a half (90 minutes) away from the city of Toronto in Canada.        

Niagara Falls is a massive thrust of waterfalls made by the Niagara River on the eastern wing of North America bordering the states of Canada and United States.

The Falls comprise of three waterfalls named as The Horseshoe Falls, The American Falls and The Bridal Veil Falls. The Niagara Falls is exceptionally wide with 168,000 cubic meter water falling from the crestline.

The nearest US city from the falls is Buffalo (20 min) and Toronto is just about 90min away from the falls. Niagara has its roots from the Wisconsin glaciers which were sighted 10,000 years earlier. After the melting of the ice, the water from the Great Lakes became the present day Niagara River. "Niagara" the name is said to have originated from an Iroquois word "Onguiaahra" which means "The Strait." Ontario and New York which are considered as the twin cities of the falls are connected by three bridges, including the Rainbow Bridge, which affords the nearest view of the Falls and is revealed to non-commercial vehicle and pedestrians.
