Lovely and historically significant, rose beads are simple to make and will fill the room with fragrance. They are the traditional beads from which "rosaries" take their name.
Take 4 cups of rose petals, 4 cups of distilled water, 1 teaspoon of sandalwood oil, and 1 teaspoon of rose oil. Finely chop the rose petals and add to a pot, covering with distilled water (only enough to cover, no more). Heat this uncovered for 1 hour without boiling. Remove the mixture from the heat and cover to set overnight. Repeat this process for 4 more days and then roll the mixture into small beads, rubbing the hands with 1 drop of sandalwood oil and 1 drop of rose oil for every 5 beads. Squeeze out the liquid as you roll the beads, then thread with a large needle on fishing line or other thick thread. Let dry. To refresh the scent of the beads, simply sprinkle them with rose oil periodically.
