NO NO AND NO!!!!!!! In fact, the 'dirtier' your scalp is, the better....on a clean scalp the chemicals in the perm would really hurt!!!!!! And also, after the perm, do not shampoo for three days...it takes that long for the chemicals to do their job.............but maybe with newer perms that's not true, but I doubt it....ask a professional!!!!! You may even want to consider getting your perm at a local Cosmetology School; supervised work, lower prices, and ask all the questions you want!!!

You should wash your hair because what is on your hair could react with chemicals in perm. The trick is to wash your hair gently, never scrub scalp the day you are having any chemical done. You aren't attempting to clean your scalp, your attempting to remove styling lotion and hair spray from hair shaft. One quick gentle wash with warm, not hot, water will do that trick. If you have problems combing out tangles, you can put a dab of conditioner but rinse well.
