Sir Franscis Drake was born in Tevistock ,Devon in England in 1540s.He was the first Englishman to sail around the world in 1577-1580.He was a sailor, slave trader,civil-engineer and politician of Elizabethan Era.This was a time period ,when England sent her sailors on voyages. The English army landed in Netherlands to support Dutch in their revolt against Spanish Rule ,and this brought the English into open undeclared war.

England and Spain were already opponents due to trade rivalry and religious differences.Sir Franscis Drake attacked Cadiz in 1587 as a result Philip of Spain send Great Armada to fight back but it was destroyed by the English Fleet in 1588. Philip of Spain had offered a reward on his head .This shows how much the Spainiards disliked him.He was named as "El Dragon".On his death, where English mourned over and the environment was sad and gloomy ,the Spainiards celebrated with joy because he was very much hated by them. The English admired him due to his achievements and bravery.

In 1595, following a disastrous campaign against Spanish America, where he suffered several defeats in a row, he attacked San Juan, Puerto Rico which was unsuccessful. The Spanish gunners from El Morro Castle shot a cannonball through the cabin of Drake's flagship, but he survived. He was buried at sea in a lead coffin, near Portobelo, Panama.
He died of Dysentry on January 27,1596 .
