The book "The Angels Weep" is another series of books that are though based or set in a historic environment or period entirely fictional. This book is one in a series that concerns the fortunes of the Ballantyne Family. It has as its backdrop the Black African struggle to be rid of their White occupiers and conquistadors.

The ways in which the Black Africans is at times, as can be expected in times of war, depicted is brutish. The Black Africans are now fighting back. When they kill Mungo St John and the wife of one of the leads Ralph; it gives sufficient grounds for the character to develop depth and to in a way justify his brutal treatment of the Blacks. The country that is in the midst of all this turmoil is Rhodesia.
