    Emergency Medical Technician.

Someone who is trained to administer emergency medical care.
EMT's and paramedics are called when someone is in need of immediate
emergency care.  EMT's provide care at the scenes of car
accidents, if someone has been injured in their home or
elsewhere.  EMT's are also called if someone has had a heart
attack or stroke.  EMT's then transport the injured person to a
nearby hospital.  EMT's arrive in an ambulance which is outfitted
with equipment they need to care for an injured or sick person until
that person can be transported to a hospital.
