Where Is Chesil Beach?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Chesil beach is located on the southern coast of England. It is in the county of Dorset in south west England. It is also known as the Chesil Bank. The beach itself runs for twenty nine kilometers, is eighteen meters high and at places two hundred meters wide. It is composed of shingles or tiny pebbles lying on the site of the original sandy beach.

Chesil beach is a barrier ridge composed of shingles and is located to the East of Lyme Bay. It is bordered at its two extremities by Burton Bradstock to Fortuneswell. It is separated from land by the lagoon of The Fleet, but this is not so throughout the entirety of its stretch, till Abbotsbury it is joined to land.

The shingles found on the beach are all peculiarly of the same size. The authorities have put up signs at places that forbid sightseers from taking pebbles as souvenirs. Some people argue that this is stupid or flawed reasoning. As the beach would not be affected by one part in ten thousand if every person in England took away a few pebbles. Perhaps they forget the impact of foreign tourists.
