In New York State How Long Does A Unpaid Bill Stay On Your Credit Report?

I have a few unpaid bills, that I would love to pay but can't afford to. It has ruined my credit. How long does this bad debt stay on your credit record. It seems that the company sells them over and over again to other companies. It use to be seven years and then it was off your credit record but I don;t think this is the case anymore.

That has to do with federal, not state, laws.  It stays forever unless you have had a bankruptcy and then it stays for 7 years after which it has to drop off.  It does not automatically drop off otherwise.
