Hibiscus Plant Is 5' And Falling Over Do You Prune Or Support?

I planted my hibiscus in the early spring is now over 5' and falling over...i am not sure if i am supposed to support it somehow or trim it down....i read that you trim to 4" to 5" after the first hard freeze in the fall...but that sounds extreme...not sure if i should have pinched it back so it got sturdier, or what....

Be sure to keep the plant in temperature that is between 60 and 90 degrees.Besides keeping it in warm environment,do water it regularly but prevent the roots to be flooded.

Definitely support it first (all year, if necessary), but do prune it back after the freeze as instructed.
