The media makes supermodels and actresses look like they are supposed to be the norm. We all know that anorexia is prevalent amongst these people. I just got through answering a question on Blurtit from an 11 year old girl. She was asking if she was anorexia. When 8 year olds think their thighs are to big or there stomach isn't real skinny, we have a problem. I have had to fight anorexia in my life. Once I was 85 pounds and 5 feet 2 1/2 inches. A size 0 was to big. Something needs to change in the media. Thanks for asking the question.

You make a very valid point. The seriousness of anorexia cannot be expressed enough.

This is what really burns my BUm... The media is well aware of the dangers of this. They do entire shows about the kids and eating disorders and what causes it.. and yet they StILL promote these Heinously skinny women that without clothes look as if they just escaped a concentration camp That is NOT PRETTY .. what is wrong with people that looking like a war victim or someone from a third world starving country is attractive? who wants to lead the rebellion? boycott high fashion.. (except for shoes and purses) ;)

T.V., magazines, billboards, fashion guru's all glorify an image of women that is unrealistic, causing many women of all ages to feel 'less than'. Those who are not like the women in the ads, and we are the majority, feel pressured to go to great lengths, to try to look like them. Women are killing themselves, undergoing needless surgery, anorexia, bulimia, and social issues, because they can not attain the 'perfection' which is mostly illusion.

Most of the commercials portray very petite persons.  I watch CSI Miama and notice the "extras" are petite folks.  Not everyday, normal, average size persons.  It's unrealistic and a misconception.

The media LOVES to make us feel inferior it's their job.. If we didn't feel as though we were less than these women in Movies TV and Magazines then we wouldn't spend our hard earned $ on products that would help us to achieve that look.   The sad thing is Without the makeup the clothes and the Touch ups these women don't look like that either.

Real Is beautiful.. That is what we need to teach our daughters.
