    Belfast is positioned towards the eastern coast of Northern Ireland and overlaps the boundary amid County Antrim and County Down. The southern border of Belfast is surrounded by a collection of hills. Over the period of years Belfast has witnessed worst of troubles in Northern Ireland, but post the Good Friday agreement signed in the year 1998, major redevelopments have taken place in this city.   

    According to the census conducted in the year 2001, the total population of Belfast was estimated to be 579,276. The census report of 2001, also stated that the total area of this region was 115 square kilometers. The name Belfast comes from the Irish term Beal Feirste, which means "mouth of the sandy ford".
