Could you take him somewhere? There's probably somewhere he'd like to go - a sporting event or whatever - and you could arrange this, get the tickets and so on. Of course it might not be possible to surprise him if you choose something like this - for one thing you want to make sure you get the right event, and for that you might have to ask him - but many people would rather be given exactly what they want than be surprised anyway.

If you do want to surprise him, how about some music CD, DVD or something of that kind, that you know he wants but hasn't got. And you could add a few bottles or cans of whatever he likes to drink. Women have a tendency to buy their boyfriends clothes, watches and so on for their birthdays - it may be a bit of a generalisation, but I think most men would prefer a drink and a good night out.

If i were you I would try to impress him with something he really likes or has wanted in the past few weeks. If he is into a certain kind of music i would get him a cd or a book. but you want to show him you love him and wanna have a good relationship at the same time. I recommend inviting him out somewhere and talking and giving him a small sentimental gift
