Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A young boy and girl, Kay and Gerda, live next door to each other. One winter's day, Kay gets a splinter of ice in his eye from the Devil's mirror, which has broken into pieces. It works his away into his heart and Kay, previously kind an affectionate, grows cruel and cynical; he sees everything as ugly and ridiculous, admiring only cold things like snowflakes. Because of this, when the Snow Queen appears on her enchanted sledge he finds her irresistible, and goes away with her to her northern kingdom. Meanwhile Gerda sets out to find him. She undergoes many dangers and is helped by many people, including a fierce little robber girl. At last she finds Kay, poring over a puzzle the Snow Queen has set him. Gerda cries; her hot tears melt the ice in Kay's heart, the puzzle solves itself and the children, now grown up, are free to go home together.
