Answer Question

The growth of English settlers increased day by day in America.  After the success of the Jamestown and Plymouth settlements, more people got encouraged to move to America to live a better life by exploring the opportunities that the land offered.  The colonies that the English developed were classified into three main categories namely the proprietary colony, the royal colony and the self-governing colonies.  In the case of the royal colony, it was controlled by the king of England.

The king used to appoint a governor on his behalf to manage the affairs of the particular colony from the side of the English government.  As for the proprietary colony, the governmental aspect of these colonies was characterized by the role of proprietors who were given charters (written permission) by the king of England to establish a new colony.  Such a colony was called a proprietor colony.  Lastly, it was the self-governing colony that was the third type of colony in English settlements.  This colony, as evident from its name, was governed by the people themselves who chose representatives to run the affairs of the settlement.
