The word "flamingo" may refer to number of things however it is most associated to a family of birds. The birds belonging to this group are characterised by their distinctive pink to scarlet colour and they even derive their name flamingo with an allusion to a flame which is very much their colour. They are web footed birds who wade through water. They are characterised also by their bill that is bent downwards. The Flamingos are gregarious by nature and prefer to inhabit brackish lakes. Under scientific classification they belong to the Genus "Phoenicopterus", within the Family of "Phoenicopteridae", of the Order "Phoenicopteriformes", belonging to the Class "Aves" of the Phylum "Chordata" within the Kingdom of "Animalia".
