Raven is the common name typically given to several of these large black birds belonging to the genus Corvus. You find other sorts of birds falling under the same genus such as the smaller crows and rooks.

In a lot of Europe in addition to North America, the term raven is generally to refer to the widespread Common Raven. The Common Raven itself has eight recognized subspecies.

Ravens may be broadly classified under the genus: Corvus; the family: Corvidae; the order: Passeriformes; the class: Aves; the phylum: Chordata; and the kingdom: Animalia.
