The Million Dollar Round Table, also known by its acronym MDRT is a trade association formed in the year 1927 to aid insurance agents and financial advisors to better their businesses and improve their sales. The fancy name comes from the fact each of the founders had quite astonishingly netted more than 1,000,000 in the year for the organization the year it was formed. MRDT lays impetus on improving the product knowledge, selling ability, maintaining standards of excellence and ethics.
The eligibility for joining the MDRT is based on an adherence to a certain code of ethics and annual production requirements. For qualifying to a basic membership this year (2007), an applicant must attain a production goal of $75,700 in commissions in 2006. Qualifying for the highest tier of membership requires collection of $454,200 in commissions. The year 2006 saw the organization having more than 32,000 members in 74 countries and territories.
