Hard Cover is of a higher value than paperback. Ast edition would be the oldest made. For example, if you have a 1st and 2nd edition. The 1st edition would have been made before the 2nd, and sometimes the second has revisions in it. But since the 1st is the oldest, it would, in most cases, be the one worth the most.
As for how long it takes for an answer on this site, it depends on the question. If it is poorly written or there is no one on that knows an answer for sure, it is less likely to get answered right away.

I would imagine so. I am going to assume that it was signed by the author. It all depends on the book. Your best bet would be to find a professional to appraise it. If you don't have a local auction house, maybe a librarian would be able to help you find someone to do the appraising.
