Iran is the 17th largest country in the world and also its inhabitants are descendants of one of the world's oldest civilizations. For many years, Iran has been going through a lot of crises. Currently, 15 British marines have been detained since 23rd march. Since the Irani New Year and the parliamentary recess was on, few comments have been made from Iran. These marines were apparently detained because they violated Iran's territorial waters. Although most politicians and parties support Iran's action against these British Marines, there has been some opposition. On 1st April, around 100 students from the Basij militia pelted rocks and stones outside the British Assembly in Tehran. Iran is currently portraying itself as a nation rigorously abiding by the international laws while portraying the British as the hostile and forceful western powers.

265 word summary of current world affairs:
Iran is surrounded by countries which have the nuclear bomb; What's more, the Americans have Iran as number one world cultural enemy -- Yanks still haven't gotten over the hostage crisis in late 1970s. The feeling is mutual.
USA also has recent history of invading countries it perceives as vague threats.
Iran wants to build its own Nuclear Bombs quick, to put the USA off ever invading. The USA is terrified of the prospect of Iranian Mullahs getting the Bomb, which idea doesn't really thrill anybody else, either.
Iran pretends publicly to the International community to not want the bomb, only a civilian energy programme, but they are only fooling some of their own population, so far.
At the same time...Iran is a state quick to embrace some aspects of the modern world. Over 65% of Iranians are under 30, and many of these young people are willing if not downright keen to consider different ways of living and thinking than how they have been indoctrinated.
Currently the UN is grinding through its procedures and machinery to admonish Iran for its nuclear ambitions, with the likely outcome of mild sanctions being imposed, fairly soon.
In the mean time allegations fly around about Iran actively working to destabilise Iraq, but this seems unlikely if you think logically; would you want an unstable Iraq on your doorstep? Still likely that some Iranians are funding some of the extremist violence in Iraq (and elsewhere), just not clear how involved the actual Iranian government is in sponsoring such terrorism.
Who knows how it will all turn out?
