If you are reading a Bible, it states that never follow the trends of the earthly world, since this is the root of evil works.
Example, invention of guns, tanks, airplanes, hair gel, computers^^ almost everything developed by Science and Technology affect the Human Perception of Reality which is based from God ^^

All knowledge alters our perception of reality. The only way that we can properly reason and think about things is through language. (take the Inuits for example, when English-speakers see ice, we see ice, but the Inuits have 18 different words for ice and snow since it is such an integral part of their daily lives, so they can tell the difference between 18 different types of ice and snow) So when scientist discover and discern different parts of reality it changes our perception of everything. Since the discovery of DNA, atoms, quasars, al things nuclear and radioactive, we have had major additions to not only our language but to the way we think and perceive the world around us. So since any new scientific discovery has the potential, and is rather likely, to change the way we see the world in major and life altering ways it could easily change the way we perceive the world. For instance take a simple matter like smoking cigarettes in the 20's doctors thought it was good for you, so smoking was a pleasure, society approved when they saw someone smoking and it bothered hardly anyone. But now because of scientific research we know that smoking is bad for you. So when you see people smoke, or if you smoke there are negative reactions, and more negative ways of viewing the word. (I'm not of course advocating cigarette smoking just an example)
