Can I Ride On A Cold-blood Horse?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

A "cold-blooded horse" is an old term for any horse that wasn't a draft or draft cross breed.  Holsteiner's, Trakeners, Oldenburgs, etc., are all considered "warm bloods."  They tend to be larger, heavier breeds.  Some say that they are harder to train and more difficult to get to go forward.
The "cold-bloods" are Thoroughbreds.  You certainly can ride a TB, but you need to know what you are doing.  Lessons before riding a TB, ok?  They are smart, thin-skinned and can be very sensitive.
      Good luck!
