    How To Convert Cubic Feet To Square Yards?

    For one thing, you didn't mention yards in the problem.  Maybe you meant to say that rock is sold by the cubic yard.  In the bulk materials business they just say "yard" when they are talking about cubic yards.

    It would depend on how deep you want the rock to be. You would multiply the area times the depth to get the volume. For example, if you want the rock to be 3 inches deep (3 in = 1/4 foot), then  52.5 ft2 times 1/4 ft equals  13.125 ft3. To find how much this is in cubic yards, we would divide by 27 because there are 27 ft3in a yd3.  (3 x 3 x 3 = 27).  So, 13.125 divided by 27 equals 0.49 yd3,  about half a "yard".
