Hmm, but your still going to hurt your friend, that fact that you both have feelings for each other is going to hurt her so no matter what you do someone is going to get hurt. If he really cares about you and her - he have to consider her feelings - the longer he stays the harder its going to get so its best that he acts on leaving.

But you can avoid all this pain and hurt if you try your best not to get involved with him- you mentioned that "my friend" it doesnt matter if she's not your best friend that fact that she's your friend it still means something. I personally wouldnt get involved - its too risky losing a good friend over a guy is pointless cause sadly men always leave but friends - good friends stays forever.

So think about it clearly before you go ahead and make your decision - it is a sticky one but keep in mind someone will get hurt.

Your friend is going to get hurt whether you date her boyfriend or not. If the guy likes you, she will eventually find out. You two both like each other, so you should take your chance when it's there. If she gets mad at you and won't be your friend anymore, she isn't a true friend. She might be mad/upset for a few days, however, if she is a true friend, she won't stay mad for too long.
