Do I Need To Replace My Natural Gas Hot Water Tank?

My natural gas hot water tank is leaking at the top around a bolt. Not around where the cold pipe goes in, or where the hot water pipe comes out, nor around the flume. Is this an indication that the glass liner has cracked? Also, my water has been rusty colored for the last month or so. I thought it was because of the change in seasons. HELP! I need the cheapest fix! In simple words too..I am a single mother :)

In my experience there is still just a leak around the either where the cold or hot water go in. If you push down on the top of the water heater around these pipes you might see the water move around. The rusty colored water is probably an indication of an old water heater or pipes. I would first try to loosen the union above where the pipe is leaking,"if it is", then try to tighten the pipe into the water heater. This should be done by a professional.
