Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

RSA is a type of algorithm that enables cryptographers to activate the public-key encryption system. RSA is an abbreviation that combines the initial letters of the last names of its three founders, Ron Rivest (R), Adi Shamir (S) and Len Adleman (A). The algorithm was first propounded by Rivest, Shamir and Adleman in 1977 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States. It was patented in the United States by the MIT in 1983 under patent No. 4, 405, 829, but the patent expired on September 21, 2000.

The RSA encryption algorithm is also known by the acronym RSAES-OAEP, which stands from Rivest-Shamir-Adleman (RSA) Encryption Scheme-Optimal Asymmetric Encryption Padding. The RSA encryption algorithm is a modification, or rather an improvised version, of the basic technique which was formulated in 1973 by the British mathematician Clifford Cocks, who was then working with the UK intelligence agency Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ).
