Is There A Succesful Cure For Ovarian Cancer?

The ovary always has to be removed and usually  the womb too. Treatment is then with radiotherapy to the pelvic area and chemotherapy to destroy cells that have spread elsewhere  in the body.  Taxol is a fairly new drug which has shown promise in reducing recurrence of ovarian cancer after surgery,even so it remains a very serious condition. The outlook very much depends on the exact type of ovarian cancer as certain types are relatively benign and cure can be virtually guaranteed whereas other types are very aggressive and carry a poor outlook.Up to now screening for cancer of the ovary has not been feasible even though some cancers produce a substance called CA125 detectable on a blood test. However a trial of the value of screening is beginning in the UK to try to answer this question.
