The Great Wall of China is a series of stone and earthen fortifications in China that was built and maintained between the 5th Century BC and 16th Century. This wall was built for providing protection to the northern borders of the Chinese Empire from Xiongnu attacks during the rule of successive dynasties.

It is called as the Great Wall of China because it stretches over over approximately 6,400 km from Shanhaiguan in th east to Lop Nur in the west. In Total it stretches over 6700 km if we include the arc from the southern edge of inner Mongolia. This wall was guarded by more than one million men. It was one of the greatest structures that showed the strength of Chinese Empire of those times.
