There are quite a few benefits of Bluetooth technology over other technologies in use today, such as infra red. Firstly, Bluetooth is a wireless technology, which means it takes away the necessity to have wired connectivity. Wireless connectivity is always the preferred form of connectivity because wired connectivity can be a very limiting experience. In this wireless environment, you can communicate with other Bluetooth devices and do various activities like file transfer, image transfer, synchronization, etc. Secondly, you can connect to groups of other Bluetooth-enabled devices at a time (up to eight devices at a time). This is a huge advantage over a wired connection, which allows only single device connection at a time. Thirdly, Bluetooth technology operates over radio frequencies, thereby eliminating the need for line of sight (a feature seen in infra-red devices wherein you have to be actually able to see the target device to be able to initiate an action, e.g. using the TV remote). Also, Bluetooth devices can broadcast themselves to other such devices, thereby eliminating the necessity of manually creating a connection. Whenever the communication is held there is a synchronized link between the devices and rate of transferring is shown on those devices as well. The device that transmits the data is termed as the Master and the device which is receiving data is called as Slave. The whole network of devices is called Pico net. This is a basic mechanism of communication in Blue tooth technology.
