What Is The Film Naked About?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Mike Leigh, expert in the improvisational play created the contemporary cinema release called Naked.  Lee's key protagonist is the anti-hero who doesn't give a hoot about anyone other than himself and not really that much about himself!  Johnny is a destructive and self-destructive force in people's lives.  The film is a violence, gentle, comic tragedy, the type of raw painful, beautiful comedic work that only Mike Leigh makes.  Other great Mike Leigh movies include Secrets and Lies, Career Girls, Abigail's Party and many others.  He was originally a playwright, but works almost entirely in film now.  He is revered amongst actors for the way that he uses improvisation to create characters.

Naked first was screened as the Cannes Film Festival in France, in 1993. It played to great critical acclaim, but it is not a feel good movie, it is a raw, difficult, distressing film.
