Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Saltwell Towers is a mansion in Gateshead, a town near the city of Newcastle in England. It is located at the heart of Saltwell Park. The towers, which date back to the Victorian times, were constructed in the year 1862. The mansion is now a swanky tourist attraction, complete with an information centre for visitors that boasts of such modern amenities as a café and facilities for information technology enabled services. There is also an exhibition on the history of the park and the mansion. The property was first opened to the public in the year 1876.

The towers were built by William Wailes. Wailes was a manufacturer of stained glass in the 19th century. He designed the towers and the magnificent gardens that surround it. While designing the gardens, he joined hands with Edward Kemp, who was a horticultural architect by profession. The restoration of the towers was part of a renovation scheme for which the outlay was estimated to be about ten million pounds sterling.
