This site had some stuff on the subject, but don't know how accurate it is:

Basically, you want to put the sun in a box, but how do you design something to absorb 40 million+ degrees of constant heat? The last test that went successfully for about half a second produced several MW. Basically, it produces several hundred times what nuclear fission does (ideally) within a given day, creates nonhazardous helium byproducts, and runs on, basically, water (deuterium, H2, is extracted from the ocean).
