Should Blurtit Quit Disapproving Questions For "Duplicate Content" Unnecessarily?
One of my "give this picture a caption" questions was removed after it was disapproved for "duplicate content", even though the picture came from my computer, and was in the public domain/wasn't proprietary. I've had a couple answers disapproved for the same reason, even though the material was original, and not copied from anywhere. I think Blurtit staff needs to be trained better in this regard, and quit assuming things. And when there is doubt, I believe Blurtit should first contact the person who has posted to inquire before deleting an answer or a question.

The "Duplicate Content" response is a bit ambiguous. I have had entries rejected for that reason when I inadvertently clicked the submit button more than once, but there has been a major failure when it comes to Blurters submitting the same questions or debates that other Blurters have submitted in the past. "Duplicate Content" should be reserved for just that. If there is a question about copywrite infringement, the Blurter should be consulted. I have also had material rejected when it was in the public domain, and in my mind that's not "Duplicate Content".

Hi, amore, I've checked the two questions you posted.
1,"Just For Grins, Can You Give This Picture A Caption?"
2, "Can You Give This Picture A Caption?"
Really sorry for that, it's our moderator's fault, because when he moderated the questions, he hadn't noticed the different pictures of the questions and deleted one as "duplicate question".
Thanks amore for letting us know where we were wrong. We've approved that question again and we promise we'll be more careful with these questions in future.

Might it simply have been that there had previously been "Give this picture a caption"? "Give this February 2008 picture a caption?" might have "passed" as being a different question.
"Give this [etc.]" does seem more like a Group Discussion topic than an answerable question though.

I doubt that the similarity in questions was the reason, since two others have been previously posted by me, and were not selected for deletion. "duplicate content" is also Blurtit way of indicating concern for copyright infringement--so I do believe that making this determination is more the issue at hand.
As far as group discussion, it is not possible to post pics in threads (it was, previously possible)-- so it is no longer feasible to do this fun activity in groups venue. Additionally, the issue of disapproving for duplicate content is at the crux here, as is expounded upon in this question explanation, above.
My friend one of my debates was disapproved without proper reasoning.

Yes, I think BLurtit is constantly evolving, and understanding what may of these issues are. Was your debate disapporved for dupicate content as you understood it?
All of us here share the frustration of what it means to be a user on the learning end of this, but I trust (and I think you also do) that Staff is doing as they can to recognize and address issues through posts and Q&A like this. If we hang in there, it will evolve. Meanwhile, we do enjoy each other's friendship here, and I am glad for that. Thank you for this contribution, my friend.

You are right - the duplicate content label is ambiguous and can mean at least a couple of different things. Perhaps it should be clarified, and/or a new term given for the varying reasons now encompassed in this "explanation"...
