Remember that a run-on, or fused sentence is one that contains more than one complete thought with subject and verb but no proper punctuation to divide them.  Such sentences should therefore be divided into two sentences, or they should be separated by proper punctuation like a semi-colon to separate the two separate sentences.  This is the example of a run-on sentence:   "The raccoon in the garage was vicious.  You could see it in his eyes."

Besides dividing this run-on into two complete sentences, it would also be acceptable to separate these two complete thoughts with a semi-colon so it would not be run-on, since the thoughts are complete but related, and the second sentence help explain or clarify the first thought.  "The raccoon in the garage was vicious; you could see it in his eyes" would also be acceptable.
