How Old Do Labs Have To Be To Mate?

Answer Question

Preferably they will both be at least two. Your male can be a little younger but your female should never be younger than two when bred. In addition you should be certain that they are both absolutely healthy  and it is smart to run STD testing before breeding as there can be disastrous results. Breeding is far more complicated and expensive than it appears when done correctly and you always risk complications and death of the female.

All females come in heat there first time around 6 months old but never breed your dog the first go around. There bodies are too immature still. Some don't handle it good and are not good moms. It is safe to breed them the second heat though. That will be around 1 year.
