My Dog Has Very Scaly Skin From Constant Scratching. Vet Said It Was Due To Cushings. What To Do?

We've tried antihistamines, Histicalm lotion, tried chicken free diet... Nothing works. He is now beginning to rub the hair off his sides and face. What to do?

I would call your vet and ask what else you can try.  They know what is best.  Also, you can try your local petsmart, or pet store, maybe they know of some other things you can try.  I would suggest just a cheap antidote like vaseline.  Good luck.

If you dog has Cushing's disease it will be very hard to get the skin issues under control if until he is treated for Cushing's.  The treatment for Cushing's is one of two medications--lysodren or trilostane.  This is to treat the pituatary dependent Cushing's disease.  The other less common cause is an adrenal gland tumor.  There are several screening blood tests that can help determine which type of Cushing's disease a dog has.  Ultrasound of the adrenal glands another diagnostic option to image the adrenal glands.
You need to contact your veterinarian for further information and what the next best step is for your dog's individual case.  There are also veterinary dermatologists available for referral in severe cases.
