How Does The Body Cope From Moving From The Sauna To The Ice Room? (extreme Heat To Extreme Cold)

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Body temperature is largely controlled by blood flow in the capillaries underneath the skin surface. When cold the capillaries contract restricting blood flow to keep the body warm. That's why the skin is white, possibly with a blue tinge, when we are cold. When hot the capillaries become dilated in order to increase blood flow under the surface of the skin in order to lose heat. The cooling process is assisted by sweating, evaporation of sweat assists in cooling. When we are hot the skin appears flushed or red.
