1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Oldham Athletic Association Football Club was founded in 1895 although they were originally known as Pine Villa FC and did not change their name until four years later in 1899. The club's nickname is 'the Latics' which is a distorted abbreviation of Athletic.

The club initially played in the local Manchester leagues but were accepted into the official Football League Division Two in the season of 1907/08.  They were promoted to Division One within a couple of years and finished in 7th place in their first season in the top flight.

The club's highest ever finish came at the outbreak of World War I when Oldham finished runners-up to Everton in the First Division.

Oldham Athletic AFC play their home games at the ground of Boundary Park which has a capacity for approximately 13,600 people.

The team currently resides in the League One division and finished in a respectable mid-table 10th place in the 2005/06 season.
